Laurie King is starting a new Russell/Holmes novel! *happy sigh*
Every now and again I get to snuggle up with a book and some tea and read away an hour, and Allison is keeping me well stocked between the Rex Stout Nero Wolfe series and Peter Capstick's adventures. I have a special fondness for Ms. King, though, ever since my aunt handed me The Beekeeper's Apprentice during my hospital stint in tenth grade. (Someday I'll get to that story, really. It's just a bit of a downer, and I think we've had enough of that for a few days.) They're quick, intelligent, action-packed, and have a razor-sharp heroine whose birthdays have roughly coincided with my own as the series goes on. What more could a girl ask for from her entertainment? On top of all that, there's Sherlock Holmes- cynical, biting, brilliant, marvelous Holmes.
*cough* Oh, erm, sorry...
In any case, it's been years in between books, and I'm thrilled.
There are now two loaves of bread proofing on the countertop next to the crockpot of soup that's simmering for dinner tonight. I'm a bit nervous about them. I've never done bread from scratch before, you see, and I've read far too many horrible stories about attempts that have ended in inedible bricks. Please keep your fingers crossed that my yeast is still good and that the bread fairies are in good humor.
I'm going to try and sneak in some quiet reading time before Mooch finishes her nap... We'll let you know how the bread turns out.
