Getting Into the Groove

It's seldom I'm relaxed enough by midnight that I can even think about sleep. It usually takes several cups of herbal tea and about two hours of music before my body eases up enough to drift off. Long soaks in the tub help as well, but oftentimes my mind is so scattered I forget that's even an option. Stress and depression are a vicious pair- you're down and wrung out, but you're too uptight to cry. Interesting how that works.

Had a long kvetch with my packsis earlier today, which is always nice. She lets me vent my hot air, and once that's blown over we can talk about happier things like target practice and takeout Chinese. (I may be in love with her 9mm. Just possibly. My adoptive family may get me interested in firearms yet.) I also fired off a quick note to my lawyer, since the divorce paperwork seems to have bogged down somewhere. The sooner that wraps up the better. I'm getting a crick in my neck from looking out the window every time I hear a car to make sure it isn't the ex doing a drive by.

Took Mooch with me to the grocery store, where she was greeted by the lady at the deli counter with a big smile and a "There you are! Aren't you getting big!" I don't know this woman at all, but evidently we are regulars enough to be recognized as the mummy/baby team who frequently get pickled eggs. (What? We both love 'em. And who am I to deny her her educated tastes?) There are three ladies who work the counter regularly, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM recognizes the Mooch as soon as we walk in. The kiddo really does have an infectious smile.

Quiet afternoon, really- Mooch helped me vacuum, we had a late lunch and watched some Wind in the Willows, she took a short nap while I read and fielded some phone calls, and there was some picture viewing and destruction of the toy area as well.
Had an unexpected call from CollegeFriend, which was lovely as well as constructive. He suggested that I might see about calling around for counseling again, and we talked a bit about the intense inferiority complex I've developed. My ego? Yes, it occasionally drives by. (With apologies to Al & Grey.)

I also got an email from one of the many places I've applied, asking for a second interview later this month. I'm a bit torn about this, since they've asked me for my salary requirements and I have no idea what to tell them. What does one charge for being an organist and starting an adult and children's choir from scratch? Should it be salaried or hourly? I'm terrible at this sort of thing. *sigh*

All in all, however, one of the better days I've had since this mess started. *knocks on wood* I'm going to finish listening to the Benny Goodman on the radio and call it an evening.

organist jobs are generally salaried I believe. And then depending on the church you would get something extra for doing weddings and the like. But I can get more info on that if you want.

If it's not too much bother, I'd really appreciate it. :)
